I decided it was time to start actually taking some of these dating apps semi-seriously and go on an actual date. I had been talking to a few guys and felt a connection with a very cute guy. We’ll call him Gary. Gary was recently divorced and was also coming off a depression that was caused by his divorce. We seemed to be in very similar circumstances.
We decided to do lunch during the week so there was a timer on our date. We could easily peace out after a short lunch without anything getting awkward. Gary looked really cute in his pictures. When I showed up to the restaurant, I began looking for the cute face I had seen in Gary’s profile picture. He had sent a message saying he was at the end of the bar, but the man at the end of the bar did not look like the guy in the pictures.
I thought, okay, well, so he looks a little different. A little older and a little heavier. And he didn’t seem to have put himself together for the date. He looked pretty shlubby and I wasn’t into it. But, I was there, I might as well have lunch and he could have had a stellar personality. Our conversation was nice and he was very nice. I was ready to leave and not talk to that man again, but as we’re getting ready to leave, he says “You’re very beautiful and I would love to take you to dinner.” And I, being an idiot who is not used to being complimented, said yes.
We continued to chat, and I kept thinking that maybe it was a good idea to give him another chance. The time came to go to dinner, and I had convinced myself to be excited. I was running late but made it right on time. He walked up and my heart sank. I just could not feel this guy. We had an okay dinner with poor service. After dinner he asked if we could go for a walk and I, again, thought why not?
The walk was very weird. He was playing some weird techno music on his phone, which no, I can’t stand people who use the speaker on their phone in public. Staahhhp! He then proceeds to kind of put 1-2 fingers on my back and that was feeling very weird. Did not enjoy. After one loop, he asked if we could stop at the gas station so that he could get vape cartridges – gross. We made our back to my car and I just felt him wanting to kiss me. I kept my distance and tried desperately to repel him without having to say anything. My mind must be magic because I escaped with just a hug and laughed my way home.
He immediately sent me a message saying he had a great time and that he wanted to kiss me really bad, but he was going to wait for our third date. I never responded and moved on to a man we’ll call Jackhammer…
