That was a date, right?

The tequila shot did it’s job and I was cool as a cucumber as Ollie and I walked to our table. I ordered some tastings of their featured wines, we had fun guessing which was which, and ultimately decided on a bottle of sauvignon blanc. We laughed a lot. We talked very little about work and got relatively deep into conversation pretty quickly. It had been almost three hours by the time he said he had to go help his friends with something.

At some point during the conversation I had mentioned that I wanted to learn how to play golf. Ollie immediately responded by saying that he knew how to play golf and that he could teach me. We made very tentative plans for a few weeks later to go to a driving range. Score! I snagged another date without even trying. I was literally dying inside.

We split the bill, which was completely fine. It was insane that it was so little considering we had a bottle of wine and each had an entree. We continued to talk as we walked to our cars and hugged one more time before we left.

I did what I thought normal people did. I sent him a text later that evening saying that I had a nice lunch and that I looked forward to going to the driving range. Ollie proceeded to do me dirty and never responded to my text. I came up with every excuse I could think of for him not responding. He told me he had a busy weekend.

By Monday, I was in full stalker mode checking out his public Insta when up flashes a picture of him with a girl. The girl is standing very close to him and has her hand on his chest. This does NOT look like a friend. He told me he was going to visit a winery with friends, not someone he was seeing. He told me he deleted Hinge, but he didn’t say it was because he was seeing someone or because he met someone. There were so many points in our conversation that would have been so natural and easy for him to mention him seeing someone else. I didn’t even care, really, we had one lunch, he wasn’t mine to claim. But as the youth say, it was a little “sus.”

Ollie and I did not have our class the next week. And the next week was continued radio silence until I finally made a comment about the class we were in. Ah, there’s the Ollie I know. Back to our witty banter and our continued encouragement of each other. He said things like “you exude confidence” and “our project picture should be a picture of you.”

This guy likes me, right? We WERE on a date, right?
